who aren't the immigrants?
today there are / will be demonstrations all over the country...
this is a sign that was recently erected all along the road leading up to my abode.

so i'm trying to remember who of us aren't immigrants? it seems to me we already kilt most of those who weren't one - so now that we are all in the club - i don't think we should close the door behind us. i can't figure out who these guys might be threatening (e.g. job-wise) and trying to figure out what hurt a bunch of people will do who basically want to work really hard. and yeah, i understand they will send most of that money home - but isn't that the whole point of God's (financial) blessing on America - that we could perhaps be a blessing to others.

Hear, hear.
You may recall the flap that arose in Annapolis a few years ago when the Maryland Comptroller got frustrated with his Latino server at MacDonalds. The Governor joined in with his "multi-culturalism is bunk" statement. The names of those men? Ehrlich and Schaeffer. "Hey, we're in! Close the door!"
Are you really sure that it's actually God who has financially blessed America? That's kind of a large assumption that we all tend to make ...
true dat Pete
On the flip side... I'm not working from the advantage of truly knowing what I'm talking about, but when you look at examples of countries that, all of a sudden, took a giant portion of unemployed or dirt-poor folks under their wings, it's awfully hard on those already there. I'm thinking here of West Germany folding in East Germany. A bit annoying to see all your tax money streaming across what was the Berlin Wall. (I'm sure there are many better examples) And I do feel that we would basically have all of Mexico forced upon us if we were to throw the borders open wide.
We're not 'closing the door behind us'! Not anything like that. What we're doing is, to my knowledge, enforcing the same regs we've always had. There have been limits on who, and how many, could come here for centuries. I'm really really not sure you know what you're asking for if you're truly lobbying to throw away all limits and restrictions.
Another thought... I feel for these guys when I hear stories about people paying them $4 an hour to lift super heavy stuff, or stiffing them altogther after the work is done... I can see the argument toward making a system for the day labor. Then again, I suppose that's exactly what the immigrants are protesting FOR -- a fair way to do the things they already do. So I don't see the sign as anti-immigrant, exactly.
