why our gasoline prices are so cheap??
i mean ... you know ...
compared with the rest of the world.
i believe austria and germany are usually $6 a gallon.

Because other countries tax the bejeebers out of it. Lots of income for those countries, which are largely socialist so their residents are used to getting taxed up the ying-yang.
Also, as you know, those countries are states compared to the size of our country. It's not practical for us to depend solely on public transport. Certain industries would collapse. (trucking) Not saying that would be a bad thing, per se.
As I recall, Ross Perot largely ran on a platform of taxing gas to as much as $4 a gallon. Naturally, this seemed quite extreme at the time. Heh. Now I'm wishing that at least our government were getting rich off of my gas dollars, instead of domestic oil companies and the Saudis, etc.

knowing what i do about how the middle east works, i keep thinking that someone is paying somebody to keep our prices low. And then I see our national relationship with the not-very-democratic Saudi’s – and I start to go “hmmmm”.
your point - no one will win an election based on raising gas prices. our country is too big, and we apparently need our hummers to get there when were not bopping around town in them.
